Races don't have to be perfect, it's just that people have become used to perfect races now. With authors like Da_man and wolfgang around people suddenly expect more.
Don't let them get you down with talk like that. Race is a tough genre to break into, but it's also one of the best.
And between you and me... you get a lot more ratings for a race than you do for an action. And even if you don't get that many ratings, you get plenty of comments. If you feel like your maps don't get attention (I know i did when i was new here) then races are the way forwards :P

Try making smoother curves
not with 8 tiles surrounded by a 2 and a 3 tile.. in fact try no 8 tiles at all, i don't think they work too great for flow. And don't double up oneways like you have in the top middle near the trap door triggers.. it just looks bad in a race. Gold is pretty decent but there isn't a consistent theme to them besides # of pieces that I can see.

first thing to know about races is that it has to be perfect... for example the places where you go up the middle and hit those trapdoors... not good... the keyword: SMOOTH!!! always!
i didn't like the end either where you have to jump of the thwump to make it to the goal...
speed shouldn't kill you!!! when i moved fast up around the laser the rocket killed me (my first demo)
but if i slowed down a bit, i could get around it...
not good either...
And since i couldn't make it through i made a cheat demo...

Kind of hard to follow the flow of this map.

The laser worked well as did the rocket. I especially liked the thwump that was excellent.
The flow could be polished by a large margin. the curves sometimes feel very stiff or clunky (the trapdoor ceiling). I also recommend polishment to the aesthetics. Look for experienced racemakers for more.
The bottom area also felt empty.
2.5 in the current state, polishment could make it maybe 4
