Issue number two in temporary form:
December 3rd to December 9th
December 3rd
The first spectacular map of the new week shot through the gates shortly into the first day: a collaboration between krusch and rocket_thumped, two of my favourite authors. This map, which epitomises both makers' styles, is the best collab. I've seen this side of fifty thousand. Great job.
Bitching. Level.
December 4th
Even after a generous 1.5-ing by a member, Dave's first map of the day is probably the most innovative thwump map he's ever made. And he makes a lot of innovative thwump maps.
How often do you find a one-tile-shape jumper that's actually fun? krusch krusch krusch krusch krusch.
December 5th
Orange comes out with another beauty today. Read the trends for more on this map.
I know you're probably sick of seeing lord_day maps, but they're really that good. This one is no different.
December 6th
Well, McP's been churning out maps lately, so I feel that at least one of them deserves a mention.
Once again, BuddyLee's submission for the week is a top quality map.
Wow. This is really an Extreme Drone Challenge.
epigone's map Elpmis is one of the sexiest maps I've played in a while.
December 7th
I truly can't believe it, but I really enjoyed this map. I suppose it is really an idiot level, but there was something cool about it all the same.
It's not often a simplistic mine jumper like this catches my eye, but amconline has really brought the cheese to the table this time. Really expensive cheese, too.
CLOVIC'S BACK!
December 8th
Unfortunately this week, we must say a solemn farewell to xdude. A well-respected mapmaker, he had been a part of the community at large for a long while, and made over two hundred maps. His final fantasy can be found here.
GLAYYYSHUR
lord_day again.
December 9th
He just doesn't stop.
Oooh. An old, sporadic mapmaker who is not Sendy makes a fantastic map!
#1: amconline - Glops
#2: lord_day - How To Mountain Bike Yellowstone
#3: Sweep - The Punch
#4: Orange - I Hope You're Not Scared of Heights
#5: rocket_thumped and krusch - Painting the Roses Red

#7: fiddlewiddle - 010 L for Light
#8: epigone - Elpmis
#9: BuddyLee - Flavor of the Minute
#10: tomfix - jeaaahhh this idiot level :)
Trends
I'm not sure whether it can be classified as a trend within mapmaking itself, but at least within Orange's maps, I'm seeing a lot of one ways used for rather obscure purposes, and trails of mines. Examples here and here.
One tile wide maps also seem to be all the rage.
News
Idomneous
I sat down with Mr_M in the IRC this week, and we had a chat about the upcoming map pack Idomneous, for which he is both a mapmaker and co-leader. He gave me a few details for you all to suss out, and hopefully look forward to. It is an episodic map pack, hopefully to be released by the end of the year (perhaps as a Christmas present, he added), chiefly mapped by Mr_M and Spiker, but with contributions from such big names as uber_haxor, Yahoozy, jtbandes, Palemoon, and many more. They expect the total map count to reach at least one hundred and fifty (that's three columns), some of which will be dedications. Mr_M would also like to add that "It's going to rokz ur sokz."
NUMA Power Shift
Arachnid, owner, founder, etc. of NUMA has handed over the reins to Sweep and maestro. With the amount of time these two can spend on NUMA far higher than previously, we should look forward to some of the great things they'll be able to implements. Congrats, guys.
Other map packs
Orion_ expanded on his first map pack this week, and released his Quicksand Pack, a lovely set of relatively easy levels. Very fun stuff.
Dave followed up Orion_'s pack with another in the same vein, though not as easy. All made in a day, too!
NTTS 4
NTTS 4, to be headed by spect, krusch, and me, is coming your way within the next twenty-four hours. The theme this time 'round is map packs, so keep your eyes peeled for any further announcements on the IRC or forums.
The Dronies
Make sure that if you haven't already, you Vote for The Dronies! It's definitely worth your while to take some time to sit down and put in your vote. Sweep wants to hit one hundred votes this year, and I think we can do it.
