Description NReality Needed!

I spent about ten hours making this stage, cause all I have is GIMP, not Photoshop. Aaaanyways...I laik it a bunch. This stage is based off the eponymous game, Dino Run. It's this neat little flash, pixel- thing that is an absolute joy (and an absolute RAGE) to play, quite a bit like another familiar game, eh? So, I thought I'd make it here...
Of course, I never realized how long it would actually take. All of these are from screenshots that I cut and pasted together, and then stitched in different layers to make foreground and background images. WOW. My first image stage ever, and also quite probably my last. I went WAAAY overboard...

So, things you can do while the images are loading (besides reading all of that ^^^):
- Go check out Dino Run, at http://www.pixeljam.com/dinorun/
- Listen to one of my favorite songs (and the inspiration for this stage) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6qcafgLHe4&feature=related (yay for Eric Burdon! RIP)
- Thank this website a bunch cause it rocks http://localhostr.com/
- Give all credit to PIXELJAM, cause all of these images are from their game.

Of course, after the game is done loading, I hope you'll RCE. And also (sorry for the long description) enjoy that cool custom dino border! (play in fullscreen for FULL EFFECT). Note that you can't wall jump or wall slide (what did you expect? You're a dino after all, not some friggin ninja!), but you can fall really far without dying! Pterodactyles will launch you, while you can eat the duck, and collect eggs and bones. Lava will kill you (duh?), but there's no DOOM so you don't have to worry about that killing you (shoutout to those who know what I'm talking about). I kept the map mostly in tact with the image, cause I didn't want it to be all confusing (like some other image stages I've seen). Overall, I love this stage, and this game. So there.

No wall jump because there isn't one in the actual game. You are supposed to rely on speed around the curves to launch yourself, another prominent feature in the Dino Run game. Looking back, I can sorta agree with the awkwardness of the green and the brown, but those are as close to the original game as I can get, even though they seem unrefined. Oh! I applied a pixelize filter, but it just made everything blurry-er. So that didn't work too well. Anyways...
anywaaay.. impressive effort, and the map was atmospehric and quirky to be sure. but the map was plagued with lackluster gameplay and confusion.. i think a 2 is a bit harsh though, as i found the level itself to me fairly entertaining thanks to the image work... so 3.0

No idea

what you said...
Cool.
DANG BEST MAP I'VE PLAYED IN A LONG TIME. I TRIED DINO RUN WHEN I WAS 8. NOW I AM 7. AND IT WAS AWESOME.

2/5

The effort is commendable, but the finished thing is very sloppy.

The no wall jump mod feels uneven, and the entire map just feels broken and unrefined.

First of all, I don't wear panties. See? [trendsupdates.com]

Second, okay. I know it's not art, and maybe that was a flawed analogy, but I treated it like it was art (also, probably a bad idea) and I'd like to think it represents some amount of artistic effort.

Third(ly?), I know I'm bad with criticism, but I try and respond with a complete account of how I feel. I could have just said fuck you and been done with it. Also, it's hard to not get mad when you put effort into something and the first response is six hours later and summarized by the emoticon :< .

I do concede, however, that I raged, and now I regret it. Thank you for the advice about BBCode; it was very helpful. Also, thanks for pointing out the pixelize filter. I haven't used GIMP before (haha, first time for everything, right?) and completely missed it.

'nother question:
Has ANYONE played the game yet/before? Not the stage, the actual game Dino Run?

Um

what lsudny said, since clearly my attempts are not working.

gah

Calm down

Seriously, you need to chill out and learn to take some criticism, dude. Not only have you massively overreacted to what in reality amounts to only a slight amount of criticism, but you also seem to be labouring under the misconception that your map is utterly perfect simply because you spent a lot of time making it. Sure, your effort is praiseworthy; I certainly wouldn't have the patience to make an image map like this, but the fact remains that hard work does not equate to quality. People gave you their feedback on what they thought was wrong with the map, and you've thrown a hissy fit because it wasn't glistening with praise.

The bottom line is, if you submit maps to NUMA, you have to be prepared to accept criticism of all sorts. If you're map doesn't get noticed, you can use the map commenting and rating threads in the forum to get more attention, or you could advertise it politely to other people.

I also want to make it clear that I haven't nor will play this map for two reasons: firstly, my nreality doesn't seem to work at the moment, so the image doesn't load at all (although from the thumbnail I can tell that it looks rather nice), and secondly I can't be sure that you wouldn't reject any potential negative feeling I express toward the map.

PS: if you want to put an image in your description then you need to type
(url of picture)
.

why are you getting your panties in a bunch because people commented on your thing. this isn't exactly louvre quality.
also there is a pixelation filter

...Continued

If you are too lazy to try and enjoy this game, then why do you play? You're just like all those art critics who spend a minute looking at a single piece, then move on to the next. If the thrill doesn't come in the first minute, then it's a bad painting. Is that why people fall over Polluck and Rothko? What about Monet? Renoir? Cezanne? People thought they were crazy. To an extent, they were right; Renoir said that if it weren't for the female form, he would never be an artist, and Cezanne painted a mountain outside of his house over SIXTY times. There's no denying they were crazy, but they still became the forefathers of modern art.

So how can you criticize a map without fully exploring it? How can you say the image is not at least partly mine when I had to do all the hard work to get it there? how can you complain about not knowing where the switches are when all you have to do is pop the stage in an editor and voila, the first layer is revealed. Have you seen the images? No you know how difficult it is to think, "Hey, I want this rock to move into the foregrund. Oh, and I want there to be a small section of cloud that obscures the players vision." Do you know how hard it is to try and get pixellate grass!?!?! Do you know, why I am ranting now? It's cause I felt good about this stage, and I wanted to share that. But that never happened; no one noticed this stage, and those that did could only think up mild criticism and scorn. That's what I am left with. Nothing else remains but a large, empty spot, and me with a game, and a stage.

Really?

Just jumping across was enough to activate both switches. And the image was mine in the sense that I made the grass, the earth tones, and shopped in the rocks, pond, fern, eggs, etc. In fact, if you play the game, you'd have to play through the whole thing to see all of the different parts of the image. So it's not like I could just go online and rip off someone else's pic. Not only that, but separating all of the different parts into foreground/background is extremely time consuming. I have put more effort into this stage than any other, and I'm really disappointed in the feedback.

Then again, You could say the jumping was bad, and you couldn't find the switches and the gold. You could say that I didn't really make the image, and that I'm a stuck up loser for spending so much time on a map and then expecting people to enjoy it. You could say the map was too easy, even though the switches were too hard to find. You can criticize the lack of wall jump/slide all you want.

What can I say. I like Dino Run,as a game, and I wanted to put time into making an accurate, miniature port. I feel I did just that, which is why I'm going to enjoy this stage. Obviously, nobody is really playing this map, and it slipped through the hot maps page like silt in a sieve, and this will probably be the last comment, and no one will ever read it but me, but I can still enjoy Dino Run, just like I can still enjoy N, and I can still enjoy this stage. And you know what? You can, too. If you really want to know where everything is, play it first in Ned, THEN in NReality. If the image is bad, play the original, and see if you can find the exact spot I supposedly ripped it from. If you're not a fan of Eric Burdon, listen to Justin Beiber. I won't laugh (much).

The best is the launchpad trap
It plays like a metanet map
but the idea could have been employed better throughout the map, and it was never really challenging enough, I thought. I also wished the switches and gold were visible.

the no wall jump or slide is :<
also not knowing where switches were was :<
the image was the best part, but since you didn't make that... :<

Question:

How do you add a picture in the description?
