For NUMA:

Don't multiaccount. Credit people for any concepts or tilesets that you use from them. Don't plagarize in-game levels, etc.

For Mapping:

Rate, comment, and enjoy (RCE) lots of other people's maps - it will help you learn. Map at your own pace - fast or slow, it doesn't matter. Check out some of atob's maps, nevershine's, [nmaps.net] Riobe's, [nmaps.net] and shortshift's maps. [nmaps.net] There are many other great authors, so don't be afraid to explore NUMA and try out other author's styles to get the hang of mapping. Try participating in the monthly NUMACON contests that are posted on the front page, and try to play each day's featured maps. Feel free to ask me any questions.
