the left looks too thick

I don't particularly like the tileset. To me, it just looks like a mess. I'm not sure if you can make a decent map out of it. I think you should just strip the left hand side bare and work with what you've got.

Fine tileset.
Just add a couple of number 8 blocks to the right hand side, in the middle (point on left side) triangle.
Then get objects in there and a floating exit.
But I\'m just me.
