Map Data

Description As I've gone through this journey of archiving these maps from Ampersand, I've realized that there were also a bunch of maps that we cut that were what we called "borderline." Many of these maps were good, but suffered from one or two small problems that either the mapper didn't want to fix in order to fit with the pack, or that we couldn't readily determine when we were analyzing the maps themselves.

A Tragic Loss suffered from this. The door and door switch were placed strangely, the laser drone didn't much have a home, the gold pattern wasn't consistent with itself. If I were to analyze and potentially "fix" the map, the map would no longer hold the same idea that the mapper originally intended.

But I would change a few key things to make this a 'Legacy' quality map;

1. I would re-home the laser drone and perhaps re-craft the right side of the map so that it looks a bit more consistent.
2. I would change the design of the corners and perhaps mimic the aesthetics of the structures below and above, and change the protrusions of the upper structure to match. In Kind, the second tunnel on the right, I would expand horizontally and add a second floor drone at the bottom, and make the 'room' that it exists in match the left 'room,' offset 2 squares vertically.
3. I would change the gold pattern of all the gold to match the design above and to the right.
4. I would likely expand the bottom structure to the right, place the laser drone at the bottom of another tunnel (Trapped or not, I'm not sure), and place the door switch at the bottom of that, or place the door switch at the top, moving the gauss accordingly.
5. I would likely move the bounce block and/or add another to add some maneuverability to the map.
6. I likely would have aligned the upper structure with one of the lower tunnels and placed the laser drone in a pattern between the two.

Something along those lines.

As I run across more maps, I may just go in and recreate some of them to show the differences.

For all of those maps which were really great in themselves and almost legacy-like, but not quite, it would be really interesting to see a "legacy-like version" of them.

I'm curious to compare maps like this as they are now and as they would be with suggested changes.

OK makes sense

I've only got a mobile device at the moment, so downloading 1.4 is not really an option at the moment.

Nice to see you here, posting stuff.

Not sure what you mean by access, but if you need the link to 1.4 it's on this page.

Although all I have access to is the online, slow-af Flash version of 2.0. In either case, enjoy!
So, after posting this, I wanted to take a crack at actually following through with some of my comments. This took me about 10 minutes, but this would be one of the examples of how we (as a team) would remix a map to make it a better episodic map. We were all super duper big on minimalism, so I didn't want to expand the map *all* that much, but I did want to keep the themes more consistent. I wanted to use less different tiles, less different enemies, and capture a bit more aesthetic consistency as well. This is an example of the process that we would go through to make a map a 'Legacy' map - being able to tweak certain aspects and play to a map's strengths.
