may I recommend you to read this
it's a mapping guide I whipped up some time ago to help new mappers improve their skills. most of all, try to use objects in a minimal way. less is more. also stack gold in a way it's fun to get (and doesn't require to tediously move along the whole structure, like in this map). for example in floating clusters with some bounceblocks in nearby. good old proven methods :)
for a second map, this is good. just like I said - avoid spamming objects and you'll be on the best way to improving your mapmaking skills.
