Description | One of my best maps. It has puzzles, simple gold collecting action, and its original. I also like how the doors function, reminds me of PALEMOON.
Also comes with an agd if you are confused. |

i think you're doing fine spudz
if you can make a map with this much care and thought, style takes the backseat.
i think any quest for individual style in this community is often superficial. lord_day took hundreds of maps before he found his style.

Eh
I see what you mean, calling cards and trademark styles and such, but they don't have a huge effect on the quality of the individual map, which is what you seemed to be suggesting?
Anyway, I think you should not bash this map for being derivative, when a) its not, and b) spudz has explained why its not. However, i think its time to invoke difference of opinion.

If you look through almost any highly regarded authors archive, you'll notice a common thread that is completely unique to them.
Of course, there will be markings of the influence of others, but there will be a certain something that marks each map out as their own.
Spudz, you're lacking this. It's difficult to explain, impossible to teach and a shame when someone who makes map with such care and skill as you is lacking in it.
I'm not having a go at you, I like your maps.

of course, as atob said
purposefully trying to be unique can lead to some awesome mapping.

hey
I can definately see some atob in this. Wait, I can also see a million other authors in this, including myself, because its so damn generic. In some of your other maps Atob's comment will apply, because you do seem to imitate sometimes, but not in this particular one.
No matter how you map, it will usually be possible to trawl through the NUMA archives and find a relatively similar style. That is why the criticism "find your own style" is not very helpful.
My advice is to be creative and unique as much as you can, but don't make that your focus unless you want it to be, and if people are trashing your maps because they believe that the style is derived from another author, ignore them. (unless you have blatantly lifted huge parts of a map, of course)

Flawless
at least if you copied, you copied flawlessly

My feedback here was an attempt to inspire growth, not impose.
Creative design is as much about exploring ourselves as paying attention to those around us.

Exactly, mintnut.
Spudz: That you consider every style covered is possibly one of the main reasons you're allowing yourself to stagnate with such derivative works.
Instead of taking inspiration and playing with it, all you seem to do is cut and paste techniques from the authors you admire. No wonder you suffer such a closed ideal of design...
Whenever this kind of feedback is given to me, I do my best to use it to reflect and progress instead of throwing up walls. Might be worth a shot?

i agree with spudz
look at it this way,
1:if someone makes a DDA, are they copying the very first person to make one? who is that person anyways?
2:same concept with race. but if you look at most races, they can look almost identicle, but from different authors!
3:tilesets can look however the author wants. this archive is for the authors to display their tallents, and that doesn't mean that somebody who does something similar can even try to take away their free agency to create a map however they want.
this map isn't plagerism, so why make a big deal guys?
i think this is a great map 5aved

I can
see plenty of unquestionably atob object placement in this. I'm sorry, but I can. I dont see how it's a bad thing personally. But you can't deny that this looks and plays very much like some of atob's maps do.
Also, what the heck is going on with that gold placement.
2008-09-13
i agree with atob;
i think your style is not distinct enough.
2008-09-13
nice mechanics
but i'm not a fan of rockets in tight rooms

This is more like
something I'd make than PALEMOON.
You really need to develop your own style. Your entire archive seems more like a tribute to your favourite authors than any kind of independent design.
Above average, imo.

Worthy of a feature
but its just to "puzzl"ing for me and difficult. Its like a puzzle/action, superb spudz, 5.

wow
First I couldn't figure out the route for my self, and at the point I got it I figured out that I ouldn't have enough time to make even a completion.

Fun.
On an unrelated note, 5 features is very impressive. Is that the most on NUMA?
2008-09-13
I like.
Something does bug me about it though... the combination of the rockets in the little tunnels you have to go through works, but not spectacularly. Either way I really do like it, seems like a very clever idea executed pretty well. 4.5 rounded down.
