Contrary to appearances, I had not heard of Ratatat the artist until Njitsu's comment on my first map [nmaps.net]. I like action and speed maps, and have decent skill in both. The most important aspect of any map is its gameplay; everything else should come second. I do think a map should look decent, but ugly tiles are not detrimental if for the sake of gameplay. However, mapmakers should strive for looks as well as function: that is what makes a great map.
